What to do with the flowered hyacinths ?

Hyacinths are one of the most beautiful spring flowers that delight the eye with their intense colors and pleasant scent. However, when their blooming is coming to an end, it is worth knowing what to do with faded hyacinths to enjoy their beauty in the following seasons.

1. Removal of faded inflorescences

Once flowering is complete, lightly cut the flower stalk to about 2 cm above the ground, leaving the leaves intact. Leaves play a key role in photosynthesis, providing the bulb with essential nutrients for the next year.

2. Continue watering and fertilizing

Even though the flowers have faded, it is important to water the plant regularly until the leaves have completely yellowed and withered. At this time, it is also worth using fertilizer for bulbous plants, supporting the bulb in storing energy for the next season.

3. Storing the bulbs

When the leaves have completely dried out, they should be removed and the bulbs carefully removed from the ground. After cleaning the remaining soil and drying, the bulbs should be stored in a dry, cool and airy place until autumn. The optimal storage temperature is around 15°C.

4. Replanting

In the fall, preferably in September or October, the hyacinth bulbs can be replanted in the garden or in pots. Planting them about 10-15 cm deep will provide them with the right conditions to take root before winter arrives.

By following these steps, we can enjoy the beauty of hyacinths for many years, and proper care after flowering will ensure their healthy growth and abundant flowering in the following seasons.
